Happy Festivus!! The Airing of Your Grievances....

Welcome, new comers. The tradition of Festivus begins with the airing of grievances. I got a lot of problems with you people! And now you're gonna hear about it!

Well today is that most important of events, the Festivus, and in keeping with tradition the Aging Disco Diva will begin the airing of grievances:

Flying Monkeys (aka: political pundits) during the past year you have disappointed me in the following ways:

The election is over, stop with the damn pooh flinging and the mudslinging. You wallowed in the making of mountains out of political mole hills this election season and the sheer wave of crapitude that was sent hurling our way was breath taking. All the Diva needs is a palace without monkey pooh flingage (or Karl Rove) stuck up on the walls. That's all I need.

KSU sports administration
during the past year you have disappointed me in the following ways:

Is it too much to ask for both a winning football and basketball program? I mean, come on. You are such a bunch of teasers...you give us a great football program but punished us with Tan Tom/Wooly basketball programs and when we beyotched about it you give us a great basketball program and Ron football. Thank goodness our women's basketball team maintains a standard of excellence. All the Diva needs is a winning football and basketball program, and a palace without monkey pooh flingage (or Karl Rove) stuck up on the walls
...and this ashtray, this paddle game, this remote control, these matches, this lamp, and this chair. That's all I need.

Cheers!

November's Nattering Nabob's of Negativism

Wow, what a November. The political part of it went great, work's not too bad, but football season?

How can I best describe what I have been experiencing this football season?

Well it started out this way:

Then progressed to:

Quickly slid into:

And has settled into:

Yes this football season has been as much fun as having a root canal done on one end and a hemorrhoidectomy performed on the other, without the aid of pain killers and mass quantities of alcohol. It has been BRUTAL. Two weeks ago the Diva thought she was having bad drug flashbacks to the 70s when getting a field goal in the midst of a 69-3 arse whupping was cause for a celebration.

Back then we were able to carry in flasks and six packs full of happy juice in to the games....this year we Wildcat fans had to watch it sans pain killers. Oye vey.

Our coach, Ron Prince, got the hook two weeks ago and like Ole George Bush he is a lame duck. We may or may not have a new coach...or we may have had a coach but when the story got out he may have gotten pissed and may or may not be coming. Or we may or may not have our previous coach coming back out of retirement or he might not be. Hell, I may or may not be the queen of the solar system (but I am the queen of the whole damn universe) or I might not be. Sigh. Two more games left in the season. Please make it stop

On a much brighter note, basketball season kicks off this weekend. The men and women play tonight.

Why We Like Mike....

By now you know that there are two certainties in life....no, not that lame old "death and taxes"

Life's two certainties are: the Aging Disco Diva loathes celebrities who are dumb as a bag of hammers (alas, the list is too long to mention) and she adores her Kansas State Wildcats.

Michael Beasley will forever be a Wildcat, but I probably would be a fan of his even if he had never donned the royal purple because he is such a fun kid. Yes, I said kid. I am an old lady and old ladies are permitted (by law, look it up you damn whipersnappers) to say and do whatever the hell we please.

I have waxed on and on about what a great kid Mike is, how he got the shaft by ESPN who will, I predict, have their collective lips permenantly attached to his arse for the rest of his pro career to save time having to bend and kiss (or perhaps in Michael's case get up on their tippy toes to kiss ) it 24/7.

I have also shared how I am SO looking forward to reading years and years worth of anguished sob filled missives from Chicago sports fan who basically forced the Bulls to pass on selecting Michael as the first draft pick this summer even though he was, without doubt, the best college basketball player. I already have my "Boo F***g Who" shirt pressed and ready to wear while I relish their misery.

Here is episode 8 of "The Rookie" I invite you to watch it and see why we like Mike:

I like Mike...why don't Chicago?

Michael Beasley is the best college basketball player in the nation. I don't care what kind of carnival game Sports Illustrated pulled with its "Player of the Year" selection fiasco. They kept changing the criterion all season long to ensure that their media darlin' was named POY ... the diva hates a rigged game, and IMHO this was rigged from the get-go. Micheal was the best player in college basketball this year and what is of even greater importance is that he is really a nice kid. More puzzling than the media insistence that a certain slow, flopper from North Carolina was superior to Micheal is the "character issue" that some have started bringing up now that we are approaching the NBA draft. Other than a couple of silly pranks involving a bet several years ago with his buddies over who could sign their name in more places in their prep school, there are no character issues. Holy carp people, let's put this into perspective: He signed his name where he should not have.... I have former students (several in fact) who are serving life sentences for committing horrendously brutal gang murders while they were teenagers...now THAT is a character issue. Being a kid who acts like a...well...kid... is not a character issue. It is called being immature--AKA: acting like a typical teenager.

Mike has not been involved in any fights with football players (unlike some unnamed Memphis player was got his arse whooped recently) Mike is not a baby daddy, he did not act like he was all that and a bag of chips while he was a student in Manhattan, he minded his mother, adored his sisters, got along great with his brothers, and is unapologetic about his love of anything to do with Sponge Bob Square Pants.

Let's face it, some feel that the NBA has an image problem and Mike can be the answer to that issue. He is freakishly talented, funny, and mischievous enough not to come off as a boring choir boy, but well enough behaved that his mother does not have to slap him down...

and he does have a fantastic mom (pictured here) who WILL slap him upside the head if he steps out of line.

Michael is every promoters dream come true. So what is the problem? Evidently a lot of Chicagoans don't like Mike, they don't want Mike, and have been filling the internet and airways with venomous comments about his supposed lack of work ethic (they obviously did NOT watch him play with the Wildcats last year) his "criminal past" (when asked to name specifics they can't) and his lack of leadership (again, they obviously did not watch him play this year) They have a friggin' h*rd-on for Derrick Rose which is fine. If you are from Chicago then work yourself up into a man-love lather over your home town boy, but do you morons have to try and paint the 19 year old Michael Beasley as the second coming of Beelzebub?

Then again we ARE talking about:

so I say to them:

The Aging Disco Diva has never had any real love for Chicago--after all I am from New York and our sports rivalries tend to run deep, but I was willing to forgo my personal enmity for the city of breaking wind if Mike ended up on the Bulls. Hell, I was ready for the world the end as I yelled "Go Bulls!" but after the way Mike has been treated by the Chicago sports fans and media... well... I will warn Chicago about one thing: Mike comes off as a goofy, good natured kid, but that quickly disappears when he is disrespected (ask the KU basketball team) and you will have, without a doubt, disrespected him if you pass on selecting him Thursday evening. He will smile and say "It's all cool", but he will remember it every time he takes the court against the Bulls.

Michael Beasley will be THE premier player in the NBA, and if the Chicago Bulls management does indeed allow its fan base and local media to turn this into a popularity contest then they will deserve the ridicule the sports world will heap upon them.

Whichever pro team Michael ends up on will have a TON of new Wildcat fans, because We LIKE Mike.

Tornado update

Sigh...it has been deja vu all over again this spring and summer. Tornado ripped through the Diva's domain last night (no injuries, my disco-tech is undamaged, but damage in other parts of the city) of greater concern: the same storm destroyed much of the small town of Chapman (fatalities are being reported) and wrecked havoc in my favorite spot on the planet: Manhattan. Damage is estimated to be over 20 million dollars on campus alone; other parts of Manhattan also suffered damage. The governor will declare my town, Chapman, Fort Riley and Manhattan as disaster areas.

Here is some unbelievable footage as the storm hit Manhattan:

The Diva A Cheesehead???

The Aging Disco Diva loves God, family, country, Kansas State University, adult beverages, chocolate, the 70s....and now the Green Bay Packers. Why in heaven's name is she adding Cheesehead to her list? Because they had the damn good sense to draft our beloved Jordy Nelson as their first draft pick yesterday.

Jordy is a friggin' STUD on the football field and a wonderful, wonderful human being. Green Bay-- you are going to be a better team because of this selection and you can bet the farm that Jordy will never do anything to sully his name nor the reputation of your team. He is a classy kid.

Green Bay Made a Great Selection

MANHATTAN — Jordy Nelson didn't recognize the number when the phone rang.

"I answered, but I didn't really know who it was," he said. "When they said who it was, I was excited."

So was everybody else at Nelson's Landing, the Leonardville restaurant where Nelson works as part-time cook when he isn't playing football. The roar was so loud that Nelson had to step outside to complete one of the most important five-minute phone calls of his life.

"I couldn't hear anything," Nelson said. "They went crazy."

The unfamiliar phone number belonged to the Green Bay Packers, who selected Nelson with the 36th pick in Saturday's NFL draft.

"It's somebody I haven't talked too much to," said Nelson, a consensus All-American last season at Kansas State. "I talked to them a little bit at the combine. I'm definitely happy that it happened."

It was a pleasant surprise, but a surprise nonetheless. The Redskins showed the most pre-draft interest, inviting Nelson to Washington, D.C., last week and flying to Manhattan on Thursday for a private workout.

Kansas City, another team that showed interest in Nelson, picked one spot ahead of Green Bay. The Chiefs drafted Virginia Tech cornerback Brandon Flowers with the fourth pick of the second round.

"(Nelson) is a good player, as we all know," said Bill Kuharich, Kansas City's vice president of player personnel. "Everyone in this room has seen him play. Sometimes we sit in the room and ask, like everyone does, 'Hmm, why did this team take this guy?' We didn't say that here. We said, 'Green Bay got themselves a real good player.' "

"We would have liked to have him," added GM Carl Peterson.

Nelson became K-State's highest draft pick since Terence Newman went No. 5 overall in 2003. He was the third wide receiver chosen, behind Thomas and Houston's Donnie Avery, picked 32nd by St. Louis.

Green Bay seems like an ideal fit in more ways than one. Nelson, whose small-town roots are well documented, won't have to adjust to the big-city lifestyle of Washington, D.C., or New York.

"From everything I've heard about Green Bay as a town, I know they're huge sports fans," Nelson said. "They've got the history there and everything like that, so I'm just excited to get into the environment and get going."

With his 31-inch vertical, Nelson should have no problem pulling off the Lambeau Leap, Green Bay's traditional touchdown celebration. If his pro career goes anything like his college career, he'll get plenty of practice.

"Hopefully I get used to doing that frequently," he said.

Well, I am now a gen-u-whine Cheesehead fan, but will NOT be one of those over-the-top-fanatical type of sports fan who paints their family room green and gold.....

... well, mainly because I have already painted the family room purple and white, with tons of Kansas State pictures, collectibles, ornaments, posters and assorted other memorabilia. Outside we have four different PowerCat lawn art pieces, a PowerCat flag and a huge limestone PowerCat decorative slab...no, nothing fanatical this Diva, LOL.

And to be honest, I also can't see the Diva sporting a giant cheese slice on her head....

but a cheesebra might not look too bad paired up with a pair of PowerCat hot pants....

I definitively will have to purchase a Green Bay football jersey with his number and name this fall

If you happen to be one of those Green Bay Packer fans who was bitching after Jordy's selection, please bookmark this page so that you can come back in the middle of next season, bow down, kiss the Diva's feet (and/or butt) and humbly proclaim: "Yes, Diva, you were right... he is the greatest thing to hit Wisconsin since the invention of sliced cheese...."

Time for the Diva to research which champagnes and chocolates go best with Wisconsin cheese...
