The elephant has left the building and the Aging Disco Diva can bask in the glow of a big, big, big, big Kansas State University Men's basketball win this evening:
Turns out, Michael Beasley and O.J. Mayo weren't the only freshmen on the court.
Redshirt freshman Bill Walker scored 22 points, true freshmen Jacob Pullen and Ron Anderson also reached double figures, and Kansas State's Kiddie Corps moved on in the NCAA tournament, beating Mayo-led USC 80-67 in the opening round Thursday night.
Beasley overcame early trouble to have another big game for the Wildcats (21-11), scoring 23 points and grabbing 11 rebounds for the 27th double-double of his brilliant — and likely only — college season. The NBA beckons, after all.
But 11th-seeded Kansas State is used to big things from Beasley. It was his supporting cast that made the difference.
Walker carried the load in the early going, scoring 17 in the first half and hitting a dagger of a 3-pointer in the closing minutes. Pullen, a lightning-quick guard, scored 11 points and doled out five assists. Anderson, averaging only 3.1 a game, scored 10 and grabbed eight rebounds to help the Wildcats dominate the boards.
And don't forget yet another Kansas State freshman. Dominique Sutton stuck to Mayo like a nagging cold, helping limit USC's freshman star to 6-of-16 shooting. Mayo, who signaled his intentions by wearing NBA socks, scored a couple of late baskets to reach 20 points but it didn't matter.
Beasley put off his expected jump to the pros for at least one more game. The Wildcats moved on to face either No. 3 seed Wisconsin or No. 14 Cal State Fullerton in the second round Saturday.

What in the hell is Will Ferrell doing in the Little Apple (Manhattan, Kansas)? Eric Melin, co-host of Scene-Stealers.com, caught up with the comedy genius while on the first stop of his Funny Or Die College Comedy Tour. He was also promoting his new movie about the American Basketball Association, "Semi-Pro." After taking a brief tour of Manhattan's highpoints (i.e., the bars), Eric journeyed to a sold-out Bramlage Coliseum where Will f***ing Ferrell performed with Zach Galifianakas, Demetri Martin, and Nick Swardson. As Ron Burgandy, Ferrell also presented Kansas State University with an autographed Hammerhead shark. What more could you ask for? MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) - Michael Beasley had 40 points and 17 rebounds for his 21st double-double to lead No. 18 Kansas State to a 100-63 victory over Missouri on Saturday.
Beasley leads the nation in rebounding, is fourth in scoring and is one double-double shy of tying Carmelo Anthony's NCAA freshman record of 22.
It was Beasley's second 40-point game and ninth with at least 30 points. He shot 12-of-22 from the field and 14-of-15 from the free throw line.
Bill Walker added 18 points and eight rebounds for the Wildcats (18-6, 8-2 Big 12), who shot 53 percent in the first half to cruise to a 52-31 halftime lead.
Beasley and Walker - the highest-scoring tandem in the Big 12 - accounted for 37 of the 52 first-half points, which was the highest-scoring half for the Wildcats all season.
Matt Lawrence scored 20 points on 6-of-11 3-point shooting to lead Missouri (14-12, 4-7). The Tigers, who fell to 2-7 on the road this season, went without a field goal for a seven-minute stretch in the first half as Kansas State went on 21-1 run to take a commanding 40-19 lead.
The Wildcats forced 24 turnovers and out-rebounded the Tigers 47-25.
The two teams split the season series, as Missouri handed Kansas State its first Big 12 loss two weeks ago with a 77-74 win in Columbia, Mo.
COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) -- Ashley Sweat and Kimberly Dietz each scored 15 points and No. 17 Kansas State held its lead in the Big 12 Conference with a 56-40 win over Missouri on Sunday.

After taking over first place in the Big 12 on Wednesday with a win over Iowa State and a Baylor loss to Texas, the Wildcats needed a win to remain there after the No. 8 Lady Bears beat No. 10 Oklahoma 79-59 earlier in the day.
It wasn't easy for Kansas State (18-6, 10-1 Big 12) as the Wildcats shot just 37 percent in the first half and led by only six points at the break.
Sweat scored seven points in the first seven minutes of the second half, Dietz made three 3-pointers and reserve Shana Wheeler scored six points in the same span to help extend the lead to 48-32 midway through the half.
The Tigers (8-16, 1-10), losers of nine straight, shot a season-low 22 percent. Leading scorer Alyssa Hollins, who averages 15 points, struggled from the floor, shooting 5-for-19 with 14 points. Jessra Johnson recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 13 points and 12 rebounds.
Missouri went more than seven minutes in the second half without scoring a point, after which Kansas State led 51-34.
Shalee Lehning added 11 rebounds and six assists for Kansas State, which has won 12 of its last 13 following a 5-5 start.
Will Farrell is one of those performers that I don’t care for as far as the roles he plays ( the exceptions being “Elf”, More Cowbell, and his Pearl, the landlord skits,) but that I like as a person. He seems like a real fun guy who does not take himself too seriously and anyone who is comfortable enough to showcase his…how to put this? less than stellar bod, to make people laugh is ok in my book. Will has gone up a few more notches in my book after he performed at Kansas State last week:

Michael Beasley will be a millionaire someday (hopefully AFTER he spends four years at K-State) but he is such a “man-child” that it is refreshing to see him enjoy life. Evidently Mike covets an iPod:

I know I said that I would not be posting this evening but the Aging Disco Diva is lit up like Christmas tree...I spent the greater part of this evening screaming my head off, pacing like a woman possessed and consuming adult beverages as I watched my Wildcats BEAT our much hated rival. Damn that sounds good. There is no way I will be able to fall asleep for hours... I am still on an adrenalin high. I cried like a baby at the end of this game. Only a fellow Wildcat could understand the depth of the pain we have suffered for the last 24 years. In fact I tivo'd the game and am watching it again. Hell, I might watch it two or three times before I go to bed.
Final score KSU 84 and KU 75...and that was despite some really crappy refereeing. Beasley was practically violated several times during the game and nothing was called. For once though, I will admit that KU actually had SOME calls made against them and Bill Toupee Self about flipped his rug several times.
And oh yeah...Remember Ole Snake Oil Huggins? The coach who left us in one year after promising us he'd stay forever? His team played tonight too... and got their arses kicked 62-39 by the team that fired his butt before we hired him.

Michael Beasley scored 25 points, Bill Walker had 19 and No. 22 Kansas State ended a 24-year, home-court losing streak against Kansas with an 84-75 victory Wednesday night against the previously unbeaten Jayhawks.
Always double- and sometimes triple-teamed when he touched the ball inside, the 6-foot-10 Beasley was held to only eight points in the first half but scored six in a row in the first few minutes after intermission and No. 2 Kansas never caught up.
Beasley, the nation's leading rebounder and No. 4 scorer, was 4-for-4 from behind the 3-point arc as the Wildcats (15-4, 5-0 Big 12) took over first place in a Big 12 conference they've never even competed in, let alone won.
Kansas (20-1, 5-1), two victories short of matching the best start in its storied basketball history, lost on its state rival's home court for the first time since 1983. The 24-game streak in an opponent's home gym came within one of tying the NCAA Division I record which UCLA set against California from 1961-68.
The capacity crowd of 12,528 in Bramlage Coliseum, where Kansas had been 19-0, sensed the victory with more than 5 minutes to go and security guards, worried about a near-riot, moved near the court.
It didn't keep the floor from being flooded by delirious Wildcats fans, who jumped over the press table and sent reporters, computers and notebooks flying.
There is joy in Wildcat land tonight. Our women, who played at home, destroyed Iowa State:
"Marlies Gipson recorded her fifth double-double of the season and Kimberly Dietz scored a team-high 16 points as KansasState ran past Iowa State, 80-49, Wednesday evening at Bramlage Coliseum. With the win, Kansas State (13-5, 5-0 Big 12) extended its winning streak to eight games, the longest since a nine-game streak last season and advanced to 5-0 in the Big 12 for the first time since the 2002-03 season."
And our men, despite some real Boulder home town "referee cooking", beat Colorado this evening:

Beasley was 9-for-15 shooting in the second half. Bill Walker added 18 points for KansasState (13-4, 3-0 Big 12) which won for the fourth straight time.
The Wildcats beat Colorado for the fourth consecutive time. They hadn't started out 3-0 in conference play since the 1987-88 season."
The game was enjoyable, but the TV announcing was not. You would think an outfit like ESPN would be able to shell out the dough and get some professionals in the broadcast booth. Having to listen to Dave Armstrong (play-by-play) Doug Gottlieb (analyst) was akin to having root canal performed without anesthetics and with a rusty drill...especially Doug Gottlieb. I am not sure what got the hair up his butt concerning Michael Beasley this year but man, he certainly had no love for Little Mike and never seems to pass up the opportunity to make snarky about both Mike and the Wildcats. You would think he'd be smart enough to at least TRY and hide his disdain on the air.... I finally turned the volume down on the TV, turned the radio on and listened to the K-State announcers. It is annoying because there is a big lag between the radio and my Tivo receiver, but it was the only solution...either that or stick an ice pick in my ears.
We received word that Suzanne Pleshette passed away this weekend... I wanted to be her when I grew up. She was beautiful, funny, ballsy and you just knew she wouldn’t take crap off of anyone. In short I adored and envied her.I mean my gosh….she was married to TROY DONAHUE
… if you ask who is Troy Donahue I owe you a beeyoch slap for making me feel so damn old…(He was a huge hunk back in the day.)
Suzanne was also married to Tom Poston, how much fun would that have been?

The latest word out of BritneyLand is that she has multiple personalities. Insiders say that besides the normal Britney (yes, I laughed out loud as read that phrase—an oxymoron if I ever saw one) there is “British Britney” who speaks with a really bad British accent (must be what Madonna suffers from also) and a “Nympho Britney” who wears pink wigs and shags anything that moves. How could they forget about “Trailer Trash Britney” who does not understand the concept of underwear and likes to walk around gas station bathrooms barefoot?
I am convinced that the reason why California is a state full of fruitcakes is because no matter how wacked out you are, how bizarre your behavior, you will not be hospitalized.

Men’s basketball---Freshman forward Bill Walker earned Phillips 66 Big 12 Rookie of the Week honors for the second time on Monday after scoring 19 points in helping the Wildcats topple a top-10 opponent for the first time since 2004.
Walker earned his first Big 12 Rookie of the Week honor on Dec. 10 afteraveraging 22.0 points and 8.0 rebounds in games against Notre Dame and California.He is also the second KansasState player to earn Big 12 Rookie of the Week honors twice this season after fellow freshman Michael Beasley was honored on Nov. 19 and Dec. 26, 2007.In all, either Beasley or Walker has captured Player or Rookie of the Week honors six times this season.
Women’s basketball-- For the first time this season, KansasState women’s basketball is ranked in the Associated Press weekly top-25 women’s basketball poll. The Wildcats enter at No. 22 with 161 points.
This is K-State’s first appearance in the AP poll since Jan. 15, 2007 when they were ranked 25th. The Wildcats are currently on a seven-game winning streak and own an 11-game home court winning streak.

Chapter two recap and observations
Tom’s family moved to Glen Ridge, New Jersey during his sophomore year of high school. Soon after his family settles in he is caught putting his arm around the girlfriend of the high school’s football star and promptly gets the sheeyat kicked out him. The girl, Lorraine Gauli, is something of a local celebrity, starring in “The New Voice” which was a T.V. show I frankly never heard of….I did a search and found this: “A social awareness series that follows the lives of a group of students who write for the "New Voice," the newspaper of Lincoln High School in Boston” It lasted all of one season.
Apparently Glen Ridge High was no different than any other high school in the country: the jocks and preps ruled and life could be difficult if you were not a member of the “in group” Tom (“Maypo” as he was called) was not accepted by the high school royalty but would eventually charm his way in. He wowed everyone at a local dance, spinning, lunging and leaping—all seemingly without effort. What no one knew was that he had spent hours practicing these dance moves waiting for the perfect opportunity to show them off.
Once again we are faced with Tom’s account of a horrific academic experience that does not seem to be backed up by others. He often claimed, later in his life, that he was a “functional illiterate” but his long time high school girlfriend refutes this. Her quote:
“It cracks me up. Maybe he wanted to boost his career by saying that he was dyslexic. He seemed fine to me. I don’t remember him going to special classes and I would have known. He was an average student like me, a B/C student”
When he was offered a role in “Godspell” in a local theater company he told everyone that he was going to skip his high school graduation so that he could appear in the show that day; he wanted to focus on his craft. Year later he claimed that he missed his high school graduation because he was embarrassed about his dyslexia. The Aging Disco Diva has been in education since Moses was in junior high and she can never recall a high school graduation that had a reading test as part of the ceremony.
Before he appeared in Godspell some of his buddies encouraged him to try out for the high school’s production of “Guys and Dolls” His friends had no idea that he had been performing in local theater and plays for much of his life (in fact they had no clue until recently) He was wonderful in his audition and was offered the lead role of Nathan Detroit. His performance was outstanding and left an impression on everyone who attended. In the audience, according to one story, was Tobe Gibson, Lorraine Gauli’s agent. Tobe took him on as a client and became almost like a second mother, devoting herself to helping Tom crack into the professional acting world.
