IRVING, Texas – Freshman forward Michael Beasley became the first player in Big 12 history to win Phillips 66 Rookie of the Week honors for three consecutive weeks on Monday, as he averaged 29.0 points and 13.0 rebounds in a pair of Wildcat victories last week.

Beasley’s five rookie honors this season is tied for the second-most in Big 12 history with Texas A&M’s Clifton Clark (1998-99) and one less than the record set by Texas’ Kevin Durant in 2006-07. The player of the week award is also Beasley’s seventh overall this season after he earned Rookie of the Week honors on Nov. 19, 2007, Dec. 26, 2007, Jan. 28, 2008 and Feb. 4, 2008 and Player of the Week accolades on Nov. 12, 2007 and Jan. 14, 2008.

Beasley averaged 29.0 points on 57.5 percent shooting (23-of-40), including 50.0 percent (4-of-8) from 3-point line, for the week with 13.0 rebounds, 2.5 steals, 2.0 assists and 1.5 blocks in 35 minutes per game. He began the week with a game-high 35 points in the Wildcats’ 74-59 win over Nebraska on Feb. 6. He went 15-of-21 from the field, including 2-of-5 from 3-point range, with 13 rebounds, three steals and one assist in 35 minutes of action. It was his second-highest scoring total of the year and the highest in Big 12 play. His 35-point effort tied Bob Boozer (vs. Missouri, 3/1/58) and Mitch Richmond (vs. Kansas, 1/30/88) for the eighth-highest total for a conference game in school history and the highest in the Big 12 era. In addition, it marked Beasley’s eighth 30-point game, which broke his tie with Bob Boozer (1958-59) and Norris Coleman (1985-86) for the most by a player in single-season. His 15 field goals also tied four other players for the third-most in a conference game in school history and the most by since Askia Jones had 18 against Fresno State on March 24, 1994.

Beasley capped off the week with another solid performance in the team’s 82-61 win over Oklahoma State on Feb. 9. He posted 23 points on 8-of-19 field goals, including 2-of-3 from beyond the arc, with 13 rebounds, three assists, three blocks and two steals in 33 minutes of action. It marked his nation’s leading 19th double-double of the season, which broke Larry Comley’s (18; 1960-61) previous school record for double-doubles in a single-season. He is now just three away from the all-time Division I record for most by a freshman set by Syracuse’s Carmelo Anthony (22) in 2002-03.

The former No. 1 high school recruit continues to impress this season, as he is averaging 25.2 points on 56.2 percent shooting (205-of-365), including 43.6 percent from 3-point range, with 12.3 rebounds, 1.7 blocks, 1.5 steals and 1.4 assists in 30.5 minutes per game this season. As of today, he ranked among the top-5 in the nation in both scoring (fourth) and rebounding (first). He has recorded a double-double in 19 of 22 games and has totaled 17 games of 20 or more points.

Nationally-ranked Kansas State (17-5, 7-1 Big 12) begins the second half of Big 12 play on Wednesday with a trip to Lubbock, Texas, to face Texas Tech (12-10, 3-5 Big 12) at United Spirit Arena at 8 p.m. CT. The game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN2.
