Obama in the house!

Barack Obama was visiting the Aging Disco Diva's stompin' grounds today; in fact he spoke at a town less than an hour away. I would have loved to have seen him speak, but alas, I had to work today and could not leave my home office. I am a proud independent voter who does not believe in party affiliations but I do like Obama and have decided to give him my endorsement...for some odd reason the press has not reported my oh so important backing, LOL.

EL DORADO, Kan. - For all the talk about Barack Obama's quest to be the first black president, his visit to his grandfather's hometown Tuesday was a reminder that it is only half the story.

Obama is the son of an African father and a white mother from this heartland state, which holds its presidential caucus Feb. 5. "We're family!" Obama said as he took the stage in a packed community college gymnasium for an event that combined politics with a personal story that does not get a lot of attention in his campaign.

Obama told reporters on the flight from Washington that the stop in Kansas would remind voters about his roots and that he was not born into privilege.

It was his first visit ever to El Dorado, where his maternal grandfather, Stanley Dunham, grew up. Obama was raised by his mother and his grandparents in Hawaii; his father left the family when Obama was just 2 years old and then returned to his native Kenya.

This Biggest Loser is a big winner as far as I am concerned!

Jez Luckett was my student for two years... he was in my 6th grade social studies class and then was my student aid in 7th grade. He always had a huge smile and a sunshiny attitude; he was what you would call a "real cutie"...and he was also massive. Jez was already morbidly obese as a middle school student and I can remember worrying about him when his hips gave out in 8th grade and he was in and out of a wheelchair. I moved from the area when he was in high school (he is a year older than my youngest daughter) and lost track of him so I was so excited to hear that he was being considered for one of my favorite shows "The Biggest Loser" When Jez was selected to be on the show and ended up on Jillian's team I was ecstatic. I like to think of Jillian as a younger version of me (unfortunately personality wise only--I would give a lung and a half to have her body) We both think we are tough arsed broads who put on a good front and can seem a bit scary and pushy but actually are kind of secret softies. Well Jez ended up leaving the show due to Neil's snake in the grass vileness (yes, I know it is basically gamesmanship, but I howled when Jez was unfairly voted off the show) Anyway...Jez lost 150 pounds and looks amazing.

Purple, purple everywhere

The Aging Disco Diva has been in a tizzy all day. Productivity is down the toilet and I have purple on the brain. What is the cause? Tomorrow (Wednesday) my beloved Wildcats play the much hated and reviled KU Chickenhawks. They are our arch rivals and frankly...we hate them. Wait, hate is such a strong word....no...hate is the perfect word. We hate them and they hate us. When I was a young disco diva attending Kansas State University we were AWESOME in basketball, we kicked butt regularly...and the butts we most enjoyed kicking were attached to any player wearing the blue and red colors of KU.

Then we spiraled into a black hole of hard court mediocrity for years, but now we are back and a long overdue KU arse kicking tomorrow night would be just what the doctor ordered.

No. 22/24 Kansas State (14-4, 4-0 Big 12) concludes its brief two-game homestand on Wednesday, as the Wildcats play host to No. 2/2 Kansas (20-0, 5-0 Big 12) at 7 p.m. The contest will mark the first time in nearly 50 years that the two in-state rivals have met while ranked in The Associated Press’ Top 25 poll. The schools, who are tied atop the Big 12 standings with unblemished league records, will also face off against each other for just the fourth time (and the first time since 1993) when both are unbeaten in conference play.

A number of streaks will be put to the test in Wednesday’s contest. K-State carries a season-high five-game overall winning streak and a seven-game homecourt winning streak into the game, while it has won 11 straight games (including nine in Big 12 play) in the month of January dating back to last season. It is the Wildcats’ longest win streak in the month since the team won 21 straight from Jan. 14, 1957 to Jan. 14, 1961. Off to its best start since 1996-97, Kansas is one of only two unbeaten teams left in the country with a perfect 20-0 record and has won 13 in a row against Big 12 competition.

The Jayhawks have also won 24 consecutive games in Manhattan dating back to 1984, including all 19 contests in Bramlage Coliseum since the arena opened in 1988. The Wildcats’ last win at home in the series came on Jan. 29, 1983 when senior Les Craft connected on a pair of free throws to secure a 58-57 win at Ahearn Field House.

Wednesday’s contest will be televised regionally on the Big 12 Network via ESPN Plus (KMCI - Kansas City; KSNT - Topeka; KSAS - Wichita) with Dave Armstrong (play-by-play) and Paul Splittorff (analyst) calling the action. The game is also available nationally on the ESPN Full Court package. It will the second of six appearances on the network and one of a school-record 29 televised contests.

The game will be broadcast on the 31-station K-State Sports Network (Powercat Passport Internet Audio; Yahoo! Internet Radio) with Wyatt Thompson (play-by-play) and Stan Weber (analyst) behind the mikes. Fans can also listen to the game on Sirius Satellite 147.

Tomorrow I will be even more unproductive as I count the hours, minutes and seconds to the tipoff. I seriously doubt I will be posting after the game...either I will be getting drunk in a wild post game victory bacchanalia or I will be drowning my sorrows in a somber wake if the unthinkable were to occur.
